Stimulus Promises Broken
Unemployment Remains in Double Digits

In February, Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats reached into our children’s future and took out $787 billion to expand the federal government under the guise of a "so-called" economic stimulus package.   They tried to justify their record spending with a promise of job creation.

Today the U.S. Labor Department released the latest unemployment figures indicating what the American public has known all along – you can’t spend your way to prosperity.

At 10-percent, the country's unemployment is worse than it has been in a quarter of a century.

Yet, Speaker Pelosi and the House Democrats continue to look the other way, as more and more families struggle to find work.  In fact, they want to waste another $300 billion to expand failed stimulus policies.

I will keep fighting for true economic recovery that starts with tax relief for working families and small businesses, and more fiscal discipline in Congress. (Click here)

Democrats In Congress Keep Reporting Success.  The Numbers Keep Disagreeing

On top of reporting imaginary jobs in imaginary Congressional Districts, (see Rehberg's House floor speech here), the Democratic leadership continues to misrepresent the benefit of the so-called stimulus.  So much so that the Washington Examiner created a map to show the false reporting in each state, (click here).  The map was last updated December 1.  Several stories below also highlight this deception.

STATE BUDGET DIRECTOR: OBAMA ADMINISTRATION OVERSTATES STIMULUS JOB GROWTH: "The Obama administration said Friday that federal stimulus spending has created or saved 6,427 jobs in Montana as of Sept. 30, although the state's budget director said at least some of the job total is artificially high." ("State Budget Director: Obama Administration Overstates Stimulus Job Growth," Missoulian, 11/01/09)

STATES STIMULUS JOBS COUNT QUESTIONED: “The Greenville Housing Authority “saved or created” 118 jobs by use of federal stimulus money, according to the Obama administration. Not bad for an agency that has 35 employees."(“States Stimulus Jobs Count Questioned,” HeraldOnline [Greenville, SC], 11/15/09)

ONE STIMULUS PROJECT REPORTED 4.7 MILLION JOBS CREATED: “One contractor reported creating 4.7 million jobs, which is an ‘obvious error’.” (“Questions Raised About Stimulus Reports’ Accuracy,” Courier-Journal [Louisville, KY], 10/26/09)

ADMINISTRATION REPORTED 4,695 JOBS CREATED IN COLORADO BUT STATE SAID ONLY 830: “Earlier this month, the Federal Government released information (showing that) contracts led to 4,695 jobs created or saved. After further analysis, the state has now downgraded that to about 830 full-time jobs.” (“Stimulus Money A ‘Lifeline’ For Colorado,” The Denver Post, 10/28/09)

A STIMULUS PROJECT REPORTED 4,231 JOBS THAT WERE ACTUALLY ONLY 1,000: “A company working with the Federal Communications Commission reported that stimulus money paid for 4,231 jobs, when about 1,000 were produced.” (“Stimulus Jobs Overstated By Thousands,” AP, 10/29/09)

Is the so-called stimulus helping Montana's economy?

President Obama and Congressional Democrats promised that borrowing another trillion dollars would create jobs "immediately" and unemployment would not rise above 8%
